BASSA Positions

BASSA positions open for the 2020/2021 year:

The President is responsible for representing all BAS students and acting as a liaison between BASSA and the wider university. They are also responsible for organizing and supervising weekly board meetings, supervising the planning of and attending all BASSA events, for overseeing BASSA elections, and for ensuring the coordination and success of the board as a whole.

Vice-President Academic is responsible for the promotion and development of academic life within the BAS program. They are also responsible for the organization of BASSA’s Annual General Meeting, as well as any academic-focused events in consultation with the President (such as Life After Undergrad, Course Selection Night, How-To Do an Independent Study, etc).  The VP Academic is also responsible for attending weekly board meetings and BASSA events.

Vice-President Activities acts as the Primary Organiser for all BASSA events in consultation with the President and with help from the Executive. The VP Activities also acts as BASSA’s representative to the Student Risk Management (SRM) Committee and is responsible for ensuring SRM requirements are met for all BASSA events. The VP Activities is required to attend weekly board meetings and all BASSA events.

Vice-President Finance and Administration, together with the President is responsible for the finances of BASSA and acts as one of the two Primary Signing Officers. The VP Finance and Administration is responsible for the maintenance of all financial records submitted by members of the board, as well as preparing the BASSA budgets to be approved by the board, and making monthly financial updates for the board. The VP Finance and Administration is also responsible for the maintenance of the BAS lounge. The VP Finance and Administration is required to attend weekly board meetings and all BASSA events.

Vice-President Communications is responsible for taking and distributing detailed minutes of each board meeting. VP Communications is also responsible for consistently updating BASSA social media sites, the BASSA websites, and BAS student Facebook pages. The CP Communications works with the VP Activities to promote all BASSA events and ensuring that the Year Representatives have the necessary information to distribute to their respective classes. VP Communications also works with the President to send out informational emails to the BAS students at large. VP Communications is required to attend weekly board meetings and BASSA events.

The College Government Representatives (College of Arts Student Union, College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and the College of Biological Sciences) are responsible for acting as the liaison between their respective college government and the board. College Government Representatives are required to attend the meetings of their respective college government (either weekly or bi-weekly), weekly BASSA meetings, and all BASSA events. These positions also act as members of the Combining 2 Cultures Interdisciplinary-Studies Conference Organising Committee. These positions may be held concurrently with another College Government or Year Representative position. The time commitment for each of these positions is approximately 3-5 hours per week.

The Year Representatives (second, third and fourth years) are responsible for acting as a liaison between the year they are representing and BASSA as a whole. They are also responsible for promoting BASSA events through class announcements and the maintenance of any social media channels associated with their respective year. All year representatives also act as members of the Combining 2 Cultures Interdisciplinary-Studies Conference Organising Committee, attending BASSA events, and attending weekly BASSA board meetings. These positions may be held concurrently with a College Government Representative Position. Year representatives must be in the year that they are representing. The time commitment for each of these positions is approximately 2-4 hours per week.
